The Money Race

Buying Democracy lets you explore the links between candidates, sectors and donors in the race for the White House.

Primarily, donors profiled in this project gave $1 million or more to a super PAC or outside spending group by September 30, 2015. However, heavy hitters who run networks of donors, like Tom Steyer or the Koch brothers, and major players expected to eventually pick a candidate, like Sheldon Adelson, are also included.

The size of a donor's icon is based on several factors, including the donor's status as a public figure, their relationship with a candidate and the amount they've donated.

This project is regularly updated to reflect new campaign finance data pulled from the Federal Election Commission and the Center for Responsive Politics.
